The West Indies Women continued their dominance in the T20 series against Bangladesh Women with a commanding performance in the second match at Warner Park, St. Kitts. After a convincing win in the opener, the hosts delivered another stellar display, posting a mammoth total of 201/6, their highest T20 score against Bangladesh. Qiana Joseph’s explosive 63 off 36 balls and Deandra Dottin’s blistering 49 from just 20 deliveries were the highlights of the innings. In response, Bangladesh Women faltered under pressure, managing only 95/9 in their 20 overs. The West Indies Women’s bowlers, led by Fahima Khatun and Rabeya Khan, were clinical, ensuring a comprehensive 106-run victory and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
The West Indies Women came out all guns blazing after being put into bat by Bangladesh. Qiana Joseph and Hayley Matthews provided a fiery start, adding 53 runs in just 5.3 overs. Joseph, in particular, was in sublime touch, smashing nine boundaries and two sixes en route to her 63. Matthews chipped in with a quick 27 before falling to Rabeya Khan, but the momentum was firmly with the hosts.
Deandra Dottin then took center stage, unleashing a brutal assault on the Bangladeshi bowlers. Her 49 off 20 balls, including three fours and five sixes, left the visitors shell-shocked. Shabika Gajnabi’s unbeaten 24 off 12 balls in the death overs ensured the West Indies Women crossed the 200-run mark, setting a daunting target for Bangladesh.
Chasing 202, Bangladesh Women never got going. The early dismissals of Dilara Akter and Sobhana Mostary set the tone for a disappointing innings. Sharmin Akhter (22) and Nigar Sultana (10) tried to stabilize the innings, but the required run rate kept climbing. The middle order crumbled under pressure, with Fahima Khatun and Rabeya Khan failing to make an impact.
Lata Mondal’s unbeaten 13 was the only resistance in the lower order as Bangladesh limped to 95/9. The West Indies bowlers were disciplined, with Afy Fletcher (2/21) and Cherry-Ann Fraser (2/15) leading the charge. Hayley Matthews also contributed with two wickets, capping off a perfect all-round performance.
With the series already in their pocket, the West Indies Women will aim for a clean sweep in the final T20. Their batting firepower and disciplined bowling have been the difference so far. For Bangladesh Women, it’s a chance to salvage pride and end the tour on a positive note. They’ll need to address their batting frailties and find a way to counter the West Indies’ aggressive approach.
The West Indies Women vs Bangladesh Women 2nd T20 was a testament to the hosts’ dominance. From Qiana Joseph’s explosive start to Deandra Dottin’s fireworks, the West Indies showcased why they are a force to reckon with in women’s cricket. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have plenty to reflect on as they look to bounce back in the final game.
